G-DRAGON’S “IMO” FAN

An “imo” fan of G-Dragon was featured on the latest episode of KBS’ VJ특공대. “Imo” literally means maternal aunt, but it’s also used to politely address older/middle-aged women in Korea. It’s thepolite/more preferred term for “ahjumma”. When used with non-relatives or strangers, I guess it’s between a “noona/onni” (older sister) and a “halmoni” (grandmother). The equivalent term for males is “samchon” (uncle) fans.

The husband says he’s quite happy that Big Bang is not actively promoting since they can live comfortably (i.e. not spending money on concerts, albums, etc.), but he’s afraid that when Big Bang comes back, it might get hard to see his wife. (At least Big Bang’s hiatus makes some people happy.)

She was also featured in another show in 2013:

K-Pop fans in Korea are mostly tweens and teenagers, so being anactive “imo” fan who collects merch like the one featured on the show is a quite uncommon. Emphasis on “active” because I’m pretty sure that a lot of people outside the the tween-and-teenager demographic love Big Bang ;) Also, I believe quite a lot (if not most) of Japanese K-pop fans are of the same age as the fan featured on the show.
